Between 2016 and 2020, the NYGP’s ‘Ingleborough rocks! Project’ formed part of the Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Stories in Stone Project’ developed by the Ingleborough Dales Landscape Partnership. As part of the ‘Ingleborough rocks! Project’, a geodiversity audit of the Ingleborough area was carried out, five leaflets were producing providing details of seven geological trails together with an app of the trails.

The Ingleborough Dales Landscape Partnership ‘Stories in Stone Project Heritage Lottery Fund bid is successful with a grant of £2.1m which with match funding takes the full programme value for delivery to £2.65m.

NYCC agree to fund the cost of the NYGP website, previously funded by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

An unsuccessful application for a grant of £3.5 million was made, by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, to develop the ‘Stories in Stone Project’ centred on the Ribblesdale – Three Peaks Area.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust reported that the NYGP should remain as a partnership as at this stage the current scale of the partnership would not warrant the time and cost of the requirements of creating a new charitable trust.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, made an internal appointment of a Geo-Dales Project Officer, and obtained a further grant of £45,000 to implement the Geo-Dales Project centred on the Langcliffe/Victoria Cave, Upper Nidderdale and Greenhow areas.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust use a grant from the Yorkshire Dales LEADER Fund to assess the viability of the NYGP acquiring trust status, and to appoint a Geo-Dales Project Officer.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust joined the Partnership.

Grant obtained from Natural England to carry out surveys of eight candidate Local Geological Sites.

Funding obtained from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority to purchase another licence for digital map data from the British Geological Survey. 

Publication of the Your Dales Rocks Project Area Geodiversity Audit Report. Additional funding for the two ALSF projects was obtained from the British Geological Survey, North Yorkshire County Council, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

A further successful ALSF bid enabled the Partnership to undertake a geodiversity audit of the Your Dales Rocks Project Area.

The British Cave Research Association, and the University of Leeds joined the Partnership.

The NYGP was successful in obtaining an ALSF grant to produce a Draft Local Geodiversity Action Plan for the Your Dales Rocks Project Area, together with an information leaflet.

The British Geological Survey, English Nature (Natural England), Hanson Aggregates, Harrogate Borough Council, Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, North Yorkshire County Council, Tarmac, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority agreed to form the Steering Group of the North Yorkshire Geodiversity Partnership.

Informal approaches were made to a variety of potential partners considered to have an interest in Earth science conservation in North Yorkshire.
